Sweet and Sour Productions is an independent commercials and creative media production group that was first founded in 2005 at Duke University in Durham, NC. With our wide network of young and talented filmmakers, artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs, we deal with new and mixed media in its many forms: shorts, music videos, advertisements, internet video, and broadcast television. With the upcoming revolution of interactive and integrated media, we hope to explore and enrich the culture of visual arts while at the same time develop ourselves as filmmakers, artists, and people. Sweet and Sour’s work is generally co-written by Shang Gao and Sungho Yoo, directed and edited by Shang, and produced by Sungho.

For the longest time, Sungho did not understand how a job like copywriting existed in the 21st century. Don’t all companies have copy machines? Why the heck would they hire someone to copy stuff for them by hand? To his surprise, one day Shang asked Sungho to work with him as a copywriter! Sungho broke his moose bank, bought a copy machine and thought the job would be easy. Shang laughed at him, explained the real role of a copywriter and asked if Sungho had kept the receipt to the machine. Sungho hadn’t. Dissatisfied with the industry’s nonsensical nomenclature and spurred on by his penchant for individuality, Sungho has decided to change his title to "Word Chooser Master," which he thinks is a much better description of his job than "copywriter."

Sungho is a creative producer, production manager and Word Chooser Master. He also helped start and is currently working with internet startup company Gambit.

Shang was born naked, hungry, and helpless. He spent twenty one years of his life trying to overcome these conditions, but so far has conquered only the first one. Nonetheless, Shang did not give up. He nurtured big dreams of becoming an astronaut or a rock star or a superhero. Instead, Shang became a cashier at Sears. He founded Sweet and Sour Productions his freshman year at Duke to give himself an excuse to skip class and aspires to use it to one day take over the world. Shang is currently an editor with the Martin Agency (Geico, Walmart accounts) in Richmond, Virginia and advises Duke's umbrella film organization, Freewater Productions.

Shang is an art director, director, and editor. He is proficient in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop and is also experienced with the rest of Final Cut Studio 2 and Adobe Production Premium. Shang likes money, power, and fame and dislikes Fox News.

In addition, Sweet and Sour Productions regularly works with Lawrence Chen and Steve Milligan as cinematographers and Eric Holljes for music composition. We have also worked with Muyan Jin (writer), Jeff Hu (editor), Yi Xiang (producer), and Peggy Tseng (assistant director) in the past. Unlike us, they've decided to get real jobs as doctors, lawyers, and engineers.
